HOW TO THINK ABOUT PRODUCTS

First step, get some coffee….

This guide shows a cross-functional product development process with design thinking methodology. (It shows the development of an OTC (Over the Counter) product for illustrative purposes only) The process is important, but also the way you think about the product, category, and how you go about figuring out what are all the right questions to ask.

The reason why I am sharing this guide is because I’ve realized it’s hard to find a public guide on developing OTC products. So, perhaps it will be useful as a beginners guide to people interested in exploring the OTC space.

Each product, category, and industry has its own nuances. They all have their own learning curve, quirks, and most important: potential for innovation – as users have constant and changing unmet needs, wants, and priorities.

The business model and ecosystem (ie. digital space for DTC) where the product will live is also very important and highly correlated with the development and design of the final product.

EACH PRODUCT IS A WORLD ON ITS OWN. PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT IS FOR PEOPLE WHO ENJOY LEARNING THE QUIRKS, NUANCES, PAIN POINTS, ETC OF EACH SPACE.
