VONNE

DEADSTOCK FASHION BRAND

The VONNE line was a short-lived deadstock fashion line launched in 2008. Using fabric leftovers and/or damaged (stains and holes) scraps normally sold by the pound- the line was designed and created. The imperfectness of the scraps were what really designed the pieces because that is where the fabric was cut.

Using deadstock fabric in fashion is a new 2020 sustainability trend.

DEADSTOCK: A 2020 SUSTAINABLE FASHION TREND

According to Vogue Business

  • The fashion industry is responsible for 10 per cent of the world’s carbon emissions
  • Burberry  public outrage for burning $37 million worth of excess product in 2017, overproduction remains one of fashion’s costliest and most environmentally damaging open secrets.
  • A key issue driving overproduction is the potential risk of inventory shortages, which would result in lost sales and frustrated customers. Until recently, brands faced no scrutiny over what they did with the items that didn’t sell. But as consumers demand more sustainable fashion — and as the e-commerce market inundates retailers with product returns, many of which go straight to landfill — the opportunity for businesses to swoop in offering solutions has surged.
