I admire Marcela Sapone from Hello Alfred because she really understands her customers’ needs. Contrary to what many investors pleaded, she didn’t compromise and continued to pursue classifying her workers as W2 employees instead of 1099 independent contractors. She understood the importance of building trust with its customers because her business model revolves around accountability, as customers need to allow strangers/workers to enter their private homes and lives. In turn she has developed a platform that has formed intimate relationships with her customers and in turn has allowed her to gather valuable data on customer likes and tastes. This has attracted luxury real estate developers and consumer brands who view Hello Alfred as a vehicle for frictionless subscription models and partnerships with these industry has in turn become key to scaling her business.
